We caught a quick glimpse of the upcoming Lunar New Year Spring Festival sets for 2022 at the 4th annual China International Import Expo (CIEE) in Shanghai a few days ago and now we have some official to give us a better look at these highly anticipated sets.
The Lunar New Year Traditions (80108) is a collection of six 8×8 stud vignettes depicting various aspects of the new year celebration for most Chinese around the world.
There does not seem to any new elements (not sure of the kumquat element) in this set but there are some colour variations on certain parts that I’ve not encountered before like the 3 x 3 x 1 Cauldron in red and the hotdog element in pearl gold.
The vignettes can be stacked up like a pyramid or in a carousel format in which you can rotate to view each one.
It comes with a total of twelve minifigures which already makes it a great parts pack at CN¥699 (SGD147) considering that it consists of slightly over 1000 pieces. Not to mention that there is an exclusive the God of Money/Prosperity 财神 (Cai Shen) minifigure to boot!
Here are some real world images of the set taken from the Expo:
This is actually quite a nice diorama tribute to the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival that is traditionally held in the beginning of January.
There are a lot of trans light blue pieces along with what seems to be a new element which is the 3×3 curve tile. Does this mean that we might see a 3×3 curve brick soon?
The set comes with thirteen minifigures along with a penguin animal figure. This also sports an exclusive minifigure in the form of the tiger suit guy which is there to commemorate the Year of the Tiger.
At over 1500pcs and with that amount of minifigures, it would be safe to say that this is decently priced at CN¥999 (SGD210) although judging from the performance of the previous offering, it might just go on discount at around March.
