The good news is that LEGO has just launched a pilot programme to gauge the demand of colour variants for existing sets which resulted in the Light Azure LEGO Fiat 500 that was leaked a couple of weeks back.
The bad news is that this will be exclusive to the United Kingdom market regions. There are no plans to expand it to other regions although if successful, they may roll out other sets in the future.
Build an icon of Italian automotive design with this LEGO® Creator Expert light blue Fiat 500 model. All the details of the classic 500F legend from the late ‘60s are there in colorful LEGO brick form, such as the opening roof, luggage rack and detailed interior. It even comes with a folding easel and a miniature painting of the car in front of Rome’s Colosseum for that extra touch of ‘La Dolce Vita’!
While it is great that LEGO is “looking” into the AFOL community to see what they want, I can’t help feel that this is little exercise is just going to disappoint even more LEGO fans as it is only available in the UK region.
Granted that there are two websites that you could order the LEGO Creator Expert Fiat 500 (77942) who ship internationally (Zavvi.com and iwantoneofthose.com), the other sets are still region locked.
I’ve ordered the Fiat 500 myself but I would have to rely on the generosity of friends for the other sets if I want to get them.
