I first got wind of this collaboration way back in the middle of last year and as 2019 drew to a close, there were a quite a few ‘signs‘ that I wrote about earlier this year.
But now, LEGO has officially announced through their social media accounts that there is indeed a collaboration between the Italy’s most famous pair of plumbers.

This collaborative project was given the codename “Leaf” throughout its development and there are rumours of a total of 18 individual sets that might be released. The number is quite high for a brand new theme and it could also include lifestyle products (ie. watches, water bottles).
There is still no official word on what this collaboration will result in but I’m speculating at least a handful of sets with the classic characters in minifigure form. I can totally imagine Bowser as a Big Fig like Thanos or the Hulk.
Hopefully this collaboration will prove successful as I would love to see some LEGO Adventures of Zelda and even some LEGO Donkey Kong in the near future!
The LEGO Ideas Legend of Zelda: BotW has already achieved 10,000K votes so it wouldn’t be too much trouble for that to be made into a set since they already have this deal going.
Here is a little bit of fun fact: the reason March 10th was chosen for the announcement is because it is the official “Mario” day as the abbreviation for the month and day is “MAR10” = MARIO.
