Toys ‘R’ Us to Close Their Stores In the USA and UK

Toys r us closing

This was one piece of news that I definitely did not want to wake up to.

The Washington Post (and a slew of other news sites) are reporting that the toy chain is looking to sell or close all their 800 outlets in the United States.

CEO David Brandon conveyed the news over a conference all to their employees which will see more than 30,000 losing their jobs. While Toys R Us Canada will remain business as usual, the Toys ‘R’ Us in the United Kingdom will be closing all their stores too.

While there are still no news regarding the franchise in Asia, it should still function as per normal as it is managed separately from the parent company but I’m sure that there will be some changes moving forward with promotions like Bricktober.

To me, Toys ‘R’ Us is not just a business, it is an institution for kids of all ages (adult ones too) to experience the joy of playing and goofing around in a toy store. I can still remember my parents getting me my first ever LEGO set from a Toys R Us.

Hopefully someone finds a solution to preserve the brand as “I want to be a Toys Were Us Kid” doesn’t have the same ring to it.
