The FIRST ever LEGO Virtual Reality Roller Coaster will be launching in LEGOLAND Malaysia later this month but we were invited to an exclusive behind-the-scenes peek at their latest attraction.
Combining the latest in Samsung VR technology with that of an actual roller coaster, Merlin Entertainment (the guys who run LEGOLAND) have come up with a pretty neat way to retrofit the age old thrill ride.
You are required to wear a Samsung VR helmet that consists of a Samsung Galaxy 8 with some modifications and strap yourself into the refurbished cabin from Project X roller coaster.
Here is where the interesting bit comes in. Through the wonders of Virtual Reality, the rider is instantly transported to the ultra competitive world of LEGO racing!
The ride follows the usual track of the roller coaster but the virtual reality animation mimics the coaster’s movements thus giving us the illusion that we are actually ‘traveling’ through that digital world.
Think of it like your typical 4D cinema just that the seats actually move all over the place. It will be interesting to see the future of this type of technology which can spring new life for older roller coasters.
It would be really cool if the content could be changed every quarter to provide a new experience throughout the year or even better, allow the rider to select his/her own virtual world to explore.
It officially opens on the 22nd of November 2017 and we will be there to check the roller coaster out again during the public launch! See you all in two weeks!
