This was one of the surprise choices that of the Second LEGO Ideas Review Results for 2020 and LEGO has finally revealed the first ever collaboration with the Museum of Modern Art.
One of the things that I love about LEGO Ideas is the collaborations and IPs projects that result from the passion of a fan designer.
The set features Vincent Van Gogh’s famous painting in all its LEGO glory and it is presented in a brick-built format instead of the usual mosaic style.
The set features 2,316 pieces which when fully assembled measures 38 cm long, 21 cm wide and 28 cm tall.
But one of the coolest aspects of the set is that it comes with a Vincent Van Gogh minifigure!
This would be the first time that LEGO has produced an official LEGO minifigure of any of the post-impressionist painters (or any painter for that matter).
Hopefully it would develop into a trend of more minifigures of real world icons. I mean we already have Amelia Earhart and Jane Goodall, why not more?
The ‘painting’ has a tiny attachment which allows you to place the LEGO Van Gogh (nice ring to it no?) with his easel on a swivel platform. I guess it is to simulate the different angles he had to cover in order to complete his masterpiece.
The recommended retail price of the LEGO Ideas Starry Night 21333 is £149.99 / €169.99 / $169.99 / 259.99 AUD / 219.99 CAD.
The set will be available on 25th May exclusively for LEGO VIP’s and MoMA members and will be available to the public on 1st of June 2022.
While I’m super happy for Truman to have his set make it to the LEGO shelves, I still prefer his take on the classic painting. The final product looks a bit too refined and smooth for Starry Night.
