The LEGO public relations team up in Billund must be working overtime with all the recent cancellations and now there is an official announcement with regards to the launch of the already much delayed LEGO Overwatch 2 Titan (76980) set.
It has been confirmed that the aforementioned set will be “paused” while the LEGO Group evaluates their working relationship with Activision Blizzard, a triple A gaming company that has been inundated with months of sexual assault and workplace harassment allegations.
While I’m definitely against any form of workplace harassment, it is a little sad that the LEGO Overwatch 2 Titan (76980) is being put on ice for the time being as I do know the amount of work that goes into designing a LEGO set.
I can understand LEGO’s decision although I’m not in total agreement with it. They had a lot of time to decide and multiple opportunities to shelve the project even before the reveal but to announce it just three weeks ahead of the launch (Feb 1st) makes it feel like a last minute decision.
We are currently reviewing our partnership with Activision Blizzard, given concerns about the progress being made to address continuing allegations regarding workplace culture, especially the treatment of female colleagues and creating a diverse and inclusive environment. While we complete the review, we will pause the release of a LEGO Overwatch 2 product which was due to go on sale on February 1, 2022.
Three weeks before launch would mean that there are sets already shipped to retailers and this announcement could easily drive up the price of the set on the black market should anyone get their hands on it.
Hopefully this won’t be a repeat of the LEGO Technic Bell Boeing Osprey v-22 42113 debacle.
Honestly, I do feel that LEGO should just release the LEGO Overwatch 2 Titan as the game itself does uphold the values of inclusivity and diversity that LEGO likes to trumpet.
What do you guys think? Should LEGO release the Null Titan or just cancel it altogether?
