There were a few surprises during the LEGO Con that was telecast yesterday but one of the more interesting bits came from the LEGO Star Wars segment.
Design Manager Michael Lee Stockwell revealed three new LEGO Star Wars Mandalorian sets and one of them was oddly named “Boba Fett’s Starship” when any Star Wars fan worth their salt knows that the name for Boba Fett’s Starship is in fact Slave-1.
I attended the Recognised LEGO Fan Media Days last month and had a sneak preview of the sets and the question was brought up during the presentation.
According to Jens Kronvold Frederiksen, who is the LEGO Star Wars Design Director, explained that the House of Mouse asked them to change the name from “Slave-1” to “Boba Fett’s Starship” as they were not going to use the original name moving forward.
So there you have it, Disney is retiring the Slave-1 moniker as they have dropped the “slave” name from marketing of “Slave Leia” previously.
How very sad and disappointed I am. The House Of Mouse, has such “pull” and so little regard, for Star Wars Fandom, and History. And that they feel the need, to censor LEGO [who have always done a fantastic job, with as accurate designs RE: Star Wars], by request. I am proud though, that LEGO was courteous enough, to acquiesce to their request. As always, LEGO shows real class, and politeness. Kudos, LEGO. Shame on you, House Of Mouse.
