The LEGO Group is making major waves in China recently with the landmark copyright infringement case and now the announcement of two region exclusive LEGO sets in conjuncture with the launch of the STEAM* courses for Chinese students.

Niels B. Christiansen (Chief Executive Officer of the LEGO Group) revealed at the inaugural China International Import Expo (CIIE), two LEGO sets that will only be available in China.

“These sets are special. They are the first sets we’ve created to celebrate Lunar New Year and the first time we’ve made sets for a specific country or region. We hope they bring a lot of joy to children and the young at heart during new year.” – Niels B. Christiansen, Chief Executive Officer of the LEGO Group

The two sets will be available on the first of January 2019 and will feature Chinese centric themes. There is a “New Year’s Eve” set which showcases the traditional family gathering before the turn of the new lunar year.

The second is the “Dragon Dance” set which features the traditional blessing activity for the Spring festival. The minifigures will all feature traditional Chinese motifs and it is really nice to see familiar elements that was introduced in the recent Ninjago sets.

As these will be region exclusive, it would probably be challenging to obtain these sets if you are not in Asia. Guess now is a good time to start planning for a trip to the East!
