Brickfinder Goes to the LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311) Shanghai Launch!
As many of you who follow this blog, I’ve been a big fan of the LEGO Ideas Voltron (21311) project since day one and it is my great pleasure to be able to make it to Shanghai to attend the special Fan Designer signing at the only LEGO Brand Store in Asia!
I’ve seen a lot of “meet the fan designer” events before but this would be my first time attending one as this is also the first fan signing event for any Asian country too.
LEGO Ideas Voltron fan designer Leandro “Lendy” Tayag brought along his original LEGO Voltron model albeit with some tweaks and additional modifications since his submission two years ago. As you can see, there are now proper cockpits with space for minifigure pilots.
There was a special AFOL session before the actual signing for the LEGO User Groups and fan media where they got to meet Lendy and have a quick chat and signing session before the madness began.
Fans were queuing up as early as 7am just to get into the store and be the first in Asia to purchase the set and of course to get Lendy’s signature on their box.
The set is retailing in China for RMB1,900 which is approximately SGD$400. That is a good $100 more than our local RRP which is only SGD$299.90. Apply the LEGO Certified Store discount and it drops to SGD$269.90.
However purchasing the set in Shanghai does net you two Gift-With-Purchases in the form of the LEGO Creative Personalities: Hans Christian Anderson (40291) and Minifigure Factory (5005358) sets. You also get a poster for Lendy to sign as well.
And if this is your first time to the LEGO Brand Store, you can sign up for a loyalty card when you spend RMB500 and receive an exclusive 2 x 4 I ♥ LEGO Store Shanghai tile.
If there is one sign that to cement the decision to make this LEGO Ideas project a reality is the huge turnout here at the LEGO Brand Store next to Disneyland. Sales were pretty swift even though it was limited to 2 pcs per person.
Even with that rule in place, that didn’t deter some from bringing their entire extended family down to swipe out the stock.

Either way, it was still very heartwarming to see the fans interact with Lendy and share some of their stories of how Voltron was part of their childhood and thanking him for making Voltron a LEGO reality.
Lendy will be headed to Singapore and Malaysia next on the 4th and 5th August respectively. He will be there for a signing session at the LEGO Certified Store in NEX shopping mall in Singapore and then head to Kuala Lumpur for another session at the LEGO Certified Store at the Pavillion KL Mall.
