One of the surprise announcements in the LEGO Brand Store Calendar for August 2018 was the LEGO Plants from Plants (40320) set that will be a gift with purchase in the first half of August.
This initiative was first introduced in March 2018 when the LEGO Group revealed their first steps to utilise plant-based plastic sourced from sugarcane.
There are 29 pcs which will consist of an assortment of LEGO Plant elements that range from shrubs, leaves and trees.
This exclusive LEGO Plants from Plants (40320) is only available as a gift with purchase and will not be sold on the shelves.
It will be redeemable for every USD$35 spent on LEGO products from August 1st to August 14th in the United States and I’m sure that this will also be available in our Asian markets as well.

I don’t get the “sustainable sources plastic” concept when it comes to LEGO. LEGO would not be considered a disposable item; the bricks are (usually) kept long term. The bio plastic is not biodegradable so the bricks will still be around for years/decades anyway. Additionally the new plastic is coming from a possible food source (be it human, animal or as compost for plants).
If they want to reduce the petroleum based plastic in their sets, then wouldn’t using paper bags instead of the many plastic bags that hold the bricks in each set be a better idea?
Am I missing something here or does this seem just a bit gimmicky?
