Bricksworld, who is one of two of Singapore’s LEGO Certified Store operators, held their bi-monthly AFOL night yesterday and it had quite a few surprises for us this round.
We were treated to check out some of the new wave of LEGO sets that will only launch on February 1st like the LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle (21313) and the LEGO Architecture Shanghai Skyline.
There was also the new wave of Nexo Knights (which was already available in the States since November) and some new LEGO Minecraft kits. Needless to say, the center of attraction was the Ship in a Bottle.
If you have ever attended an AFOL night here in Singapore, it always starts out with a mini-build challenge which each attendee is given a small packet of bricks sans instructions. The packet is from a current set (usually an Advent Calendar) so its not that hard to figure out how to build them.
Some gave themselves the extra challenge of building the model entirely in the bag while others decided to have some fun and create their own design with the bricks.
Then there is the usual quiz portion where this time round, had quite a few tricky questions like “Did Ole Kirk Christiansen invent the LEGO brick system? (T/F)” or “What is the total number of minifigure designs if you combined the entire series of Disney minifigure and series 10?”.
The last challenge for the night is the free build portion which had the attendees construct a “sea-worthy” ship out of LEGO Bricks. The criteria is that it had to stay afloat in a tub of water and coins will be added till the craft sinks.
The ship which can hold the most amount of coins before it sinks, wins!
It is always great to hang out with fellow AFOLs and catch up on the latest news and MOCs (My Own Creations). It was really cool that one of the members brought Tyler’s (LEGOHaulic) Brick built baby Groot!
See you all at the next AFOL night!
