To complement the LEGO Ideas Ship in a Bottle (21313) fan signing, LEGO released the designer video for the very set with LEGO designer Thiago Catarino taking us through the design process of adapting Jake Sandovich’s project.
Thiago Catarino highlights some of the challenges like having to scale the size of the bottle which meant scaling down the ship as well. He also introduces some of the new elements that will be included in this set like the 4×4 curve plate and the 2×4 tile in Teal colour.
LEGO Graphic designer Mark Tranter also shares about how they overcame the construction of the compass which required an 8×8 dish with print on the inside. Pretty ingenious solution to print the compass design on the outside but in reverse.

As our friends at Promobricks pointed out, I couldn’t help but smile when I finally realised that the initials on the printed 2×2 red tile actually belongs to the LEGO Designer Thiago Catarino (TC).
Designer didn´t add value to the set idea that much to justify the personal contribution which get pointed out too much often in the video. Initialisation of Tiago sucks
Happy Birthday Lego
