Now that the furor over the latest LEGO Ideas results have subsided, lets take a closer look at the video in which Hasan Jansen explains to us why some sets are not selected for production.
He cites as the first reason is that there ‘might’ be a similar set that LEGO is developing internally. LEGO updated their LEGO Ideas entry criteria last year to avoid any further miscommunications like the Ghostbusters HQ incident.
Another reason that was highlighted was that they were unable to obtain the rights from the intellectual property holder (ie. Disney, Warner Bros).
As we know, that there is an undisclosed LEGO Star Wars D2c (Direct to Consumer) set with number 75222 that is supposed to be released at the end of 2018.
Rumours are pointing to a large play-set of sorts and that it could very well be based on Bespin, the Cloud City and if that is the case, LEGO Ideas “I am your father” project would fit right in.
As it is a D2C, it would be a rather large set and most likely a play-set that has multiple vignettes. Cloud City would be a very nice fit as there were a host of iconic scenes from that one location during The Empire Strikes Back.
My money is on a LEGO UCS Cloud City play-set but it is really anyone’s guess at the moment.
Hasan does refer to the ‘set’ during the video which was omitted by the usual “bleep” but you could just make out that he says something that starts with the letter “B”. Let the speculation begin!
I can slightly make out “Bespin set” on the video.
