It was announced today that there will be a new Star Wars Trilogy of movies coming our way with Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson developing.
This new set of movies will be separate from the Skywalker saga and feature a host of ‘brand’ new characters in a different part of a galaxy far far away.
There is also an announcement of a live-action television series that will debut on Disney’s new streaming service at the end of 2019 which means even more content for LEGO sets to be made.
There has been no word on when the trilogy or the television series will be set but I do hope that they are able to tap into the vast expanded universe that Lucasfilm has now reclassified as “Star Wars Legends”.
The Old Republic is ripe for an original trilogy and there are already existing sets from that era which feature minifigures like Darth Revan and Darth Malgus, two of my favourite LEGO Sith Lords.
We should be seeing a lot more LEGO Star Wars content in the coming years as the license that they have with Lucasfilm will continue for another 8 more years.
