With the LEGO Group’s rapid expansion into Asia, it was only a matter of time before Shanghai would be the home to the first ever LEGO Certified Store (LCS) in China.
It will officially open for business on the 25th of March (Saturday) but some of the LEGO fans were treated to a VIP preview of the store on Thursday (23rd March).
The LEGO Certified Store is located in the heart of Shanghai at the Bai Lian Century Shopping Center (百联世纪购物中心) along Century Avenue right on the corner of Zhāng Yáng Road (张杨路) and Fú Shān Road (福山路).
It is right next to the entrance of the mall so you can’t really miss it. As I mentioned before, The LEGO Certified Store is slightly different from a LEGO Brand Store in that these are actually owned and managed by a retail partner and not The LEGO Group directly.
They have the same LEGO experience of the Pick-A-Brick wall, Build-A-Minifigure Station, exclusive sets and even monthly builds. The only thing absent would be the LEGO VIP program which our counterparts in the United States and Europe enjoy.
The PAB tubs are priced at CNY¥159 (SGD$32.29) for the big tub and CNY¥89 (SGD$18.70) for the smaller tub which is slightly cheaper than Singapore’s prices.
The main highlight of the event would be the unveiling of several permanent LEGO store displays by LEGO Certified Professional Andy Hung.
Amongst the displays was a LEGO model of the Customs House that is located along the Huang Pu river. There was also a mosaic of the Shanghai Skyline featuring buildings like the Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl Tower.
This is one aspect that I find is missing from our Singaporean LEGO Certified Stores which are the permanent custom LEGO displays that makes each store a little bit more unique.
I was not able to attend the opening ceremony but some members of HeroesLUG were on hand to enjoy the festivities and kindly shared some of their photos.
And in case you’re wondering, the LEGO store that is located next to Shanghai Disneyland is actually a LEGO Brand Store and not a LEGO Certified one.
