The LEGO Ideas blog just announced the winner for the second 2016 review stage round of finalists and it is Women of NASA by Maia Weinstock!
The set managed to edge out other popular favourites like Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by Aaron Fiskum and the Adam’s Family Mansion by Afol777.
I can understand why this made the cut as this celebrates the work women have contributed to the Space program and there was even an Oscar nominated movie about a similar premise.
It is unfortunate that some of my favourites did not make the cut but I’m a little bit heartened that LEGO Ideas has not completely ruled out the one set that everyone has been rooting for in this selection which is Lendy Tayag‘s Voltron – Defender of the Universe project!
They mentioned in the video that the team is still considering that project and assessing its’ viability to become an actual LEGO set.
All I can say is that if this ever goes to production, the Asian regions would definitely support this as it was prominent part of our pop culture diet while growing up.
The result of Voltron will be revealed during the next round of LEGO Ideas winners which will be taking place later in the year.
The Women of NASA set is already getting the LEGO polish and will be available late 2017 or early 2018. Congratulations Maia!
Congratulations Maia!
