The LEGO Movie 2 will be a Musical set in Space!

In a recent pod-cast interview by SHANLIAN ON BATMAN, director Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie) revealed that The LEGO Movie 2 will have a lot of songs and it will be set in SPACE! 

“LEGO 2 is going to be this big musical and space action movie. They need a lot of the writing, a lot of development, not only with script development, but development with songwriters. So it was very ambitious to get that movie out.”

Take it for what you will as it does sound pretty far out but bizarre is no stranger to Emmet and pals. I can just imagine Benny already going bonkers with all the awesome spaceships he’ll get to build.

And not to mention all the cameos and sci-fi references that they can cram in.

Director Mike Mitchell, whose filmography includes Shrek Forever After and Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, is on board to direct the LEGO Movie 2, taking over the previous director Rob Schrab who left on creative differences.

The LEGO Movie 2 had a long production journey with the movie initially slated for a 2017 release but having its’ release date pushed back all the way to 2019.

The original directors of The LEGO Movie, Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, penned the first draft of the script and now Warner Bros. got Bob Waksberg (BoJack Horseman) to come in and punch out a re-write.

Hopefully everything will come together in the end and we’ll be treated to the sequel that the LEGO Movie deserves.
