LEGO Star Wars R3-M2 (40268) Official Photos
The LEGO servers just updated with the official image to the LEGO Star Wars R3-M2 (40268) polybag which means that this might just be officially available really soon.
Ebay and Bricklink has been inundated with these over the holiday period which some have speculated that it was meant for some Star Wars Celebration promotion this year (it is the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars after all!)
As you can see, the base of the astromech droid contains a technic pin which would suggest that it attaches itself to another similar base to form a longer one.
It is definitely a possibility that this is just a part of a series of droids to collect during the course of the year.
Disney has released Astromech “battle packs” in toy form recently so this wouldn’t be too far fetched a merchandising strategy.
