Took a really quick trip up to Kuala Lumpur (just north of Singapore) to check out the LEGO Batman Movie Escape Room event up that was held at the Mid-Valley Mall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The set up at Mid-Valley is similar to the one we had in Singapore which the Escape Room as the central focus and there are some interesting additions that sets it about from the one in their neighbours down south.
There is a central stage with a huge LCD screen that cycles through the different trailers and movie clips of the LEGO Batman Movie. It is also the stage in which the LEGO Batman mascots gather for their photo opportunities throughout the day.
Speaking of photos, there is an instant photo-booth where you can take snapshots with a LEGO Batman standee and they will print out the photos for you, no purchase required.
The LEGO Batman Movie escape room basic premise is that the Joker has taken Gotham City hostage and those who enter the Escape Room are tasked to capture and put him back behind bars.
There are two sections to the Escape Room and the first is to construct the Bat-logo with 2×4 yellow and black bricks on a 48×48 baseplate. Once you are done, there is a button that you press to activate the “bat-signal”.
Then you are ushered into the second section where you have to build a “prison cage” for the Joker to stop him from escaping.
But the real treat for me are the LEGO Batman vignette display that were made specifically for this event. The LEGO® User Group of Malaysia (LOM) held open call for vignettes with the LEGO Batman theme and the best 25 were selected for display.
There is also a LEGO Batman Movie diorama that incorporates all the sets that were released in this wave. It is really great to see the LEGO User Groups stepping up and collaborating on these events with their MOCs and dioramas as this is one of the best ways to inspire kids to build.
Some of Batman’s more popular suits are also on display in 2D wooden standees that is littered around the event, some near the stage and some at the end with the huge statue of LEGO Batman.
