The designer for the LEGO Ideas The Beatles Yellow Submarine, Kevin Szeto, was on hand at the LEGO Store in Liverpool for an autograph/meet the fans session!
Those who braved the queue managed to get their hands on the LEGO Ideas Yellow Submarine set a couple of days ahead of the actual release date too!
The signing was between 11am to 1pm but I was told that Kevin stayed back longer to accommodate the crowd who amassed outside.
These sessions are a great way to engage the AFOL communities as meeting these designers can be quite inspiring.
Some of you may already know that the LEGO Ideas set that you buy is actual a two designer effort. There is the designer for the original project submission and the LEGO designer who refines the final build.
So here is a shout out to Justin Ramsden who helped refine Kevin’s original design. Great job to the both of you!
The Beatles Yellow Submarine set is slated for a November 1st release in the United States, UK and Europe but it is only arriving in Singapore in December for some reason.
Oh well, at least we’re getting it in this part of the world!
Here is Kevin’s inspiration for the build:
“As an amateur musician and songwriter, I have always been drawn to the music of The Beatles. The creation of the Yellow Submarine model was really my way of showing my affection for The Beatles, as well as trying to pay a small tribute to The Beatles phenomenon. The Yellow Submarine is bright, fun, and colourful, which also made it a good subject to translate into LEGO form“
And Justin’s:
“I watched the film when I was younger and was really inspired by how it oozed so much imagination – comparable to how I view LEGO elements. I’m also a massive fan of The Beatles having grown up with their music all my life so to see The Beatles in LEGO form is a dream come true.”
